Cleansing and Charging
Your Crystals
When a stone has been used for energy work, or jewellery is worn for any length of time, or crystals placed around the home, they will need regular cleansing as they are working all the time, cleansing and balancing you and your environment of any negative energies.

Before deciding on how you will cleanse your crystals you need to make sure you know whether they are friable (layered or clustered) if they are then they can separate or dissolve if they are water soluble, such as Selenite or Salt Rock. Tumble stones (or polished stones - are tumbled for a long period of time in fine grit , they are usually harder stones to survive this process). Tumble stones can be kept together but more fragile stones should be kept apart to prevent damage.
Cleansing Your Crystals

Buried in the ground and left overnight the earth’s magnetic energy and the life forces in the organic matter it’s buried in will cleanse It by drawing out the negative energies.

The Sun - the most natural way to cleanse crystals, however some crystals like amethyst fade in direct sunlight and when left unattended, particularly Clear Quartz, can be a fire risk so please do be careful.

Thought vibrations are also a good way of cleansing crystals the crystal should be held in the left and, with the point directed away from the body so as not to direct the negative energy towards you but away from you. Breathing deeply and with a clear mind ask in your head or out loud for the stone to be purified of any negative energies be expelled from it, I normally say “Remove any negative energies whatsoever from this crystal, whether they be physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual and allow this crystal to …either, work to its highest good or with the energy of “…..….”name of the person the crystal is working with.

A small crystal can be left on a clear quartz cluster overnight to cleanse

You can also pass a small crystal through the flame of a burning candle with the same intention and purpose.

Wash them in the sea – this is highly recommended if possible and practical, as the sea is a direct natural source with its own cleansing attributes, but it is important to be aware of and take into consideration possible pollution. Alternatively, if the sea is not practical putting a tablespoon of sea or rock salt in a glass of spring water will work as well. You can use your intuition to ask if the crystal has been fully cleansed before removing it or leave for between 15minutes and several hours. Friable crystals can be placed in sea salt too, but it is essential to brush all the salt out, so it doesn’t damage the crystal, especially if left in a damp atmosphere.

A running tap can also be used, but it’s also worth bearing in mind the chemicals that are used in tap water.
Tumble Stones

Essential oils, specifically cleansing essential oils such as Lavender, Palma Rosa, Eucalyptus, Pine or Ylang Ylang, amongst others. Cleansing sprays can be made using spring water in a bottle with a fine mist spray and holding the intention and using your intuition to cleanse them. I find this is more useful for larger and more delicate crystals. You can also have a dedicated clean brush, such as a shaving brush with a few drops of essential oil dripped onto it and use the brush for clusters and geodes etc to get into the little crevices.
Some crystals have cleansing abilities, such as Carnelian and clear quartz. Place a carnelian in a bag of tumbled stones and the carnelian will cleanse them, it’s important to remember to cleanse the Carnelian afterwards.
You can smudge a crystal with white sage. Hold the crystal in the smoke of the white sage and repeat the cleansing intention affirmation with purpose and intention using your intuition to know when it has been fully cleansed.
